Has some pretty surprising balls. Took one for a test drive today, probably what we will be replacing the Tacoma with.
2.7l Ecoboost, super-cab, 10-speed, 3.55:1 final, electronic locker, 4x4, tow package, power windows/mirrors, rear-view camera with trailer aid. Literally NO other options (no carpet even!).

That’s the truck I’d want when I’m ready to replace my old-as-balls F150. I’ve heard that you can tune the 2.7l to get and incredibly fast ride. 6.5 or 8’ bed?

The one pictured doesn’t even come with mirrors! Talk about your base model! Ha.

haha, I didn’t even notice that ‘til you mentioned it! yeah, we’d be getting it with the no-cost-option side-view-mirrors.
It does have “curve control” though...

6.5, the short wheelbase gives us slightly higher tow capacity.

I had a 17 quad cab as a rental and I wasn’t paying for gas so I leaned on the thing pretty hard and still returned 20+ mpgs. I liked that truck/engine combo a lot. Even did some nice launches with smoky burnouts.

The 2.7L is the best-selling engine in the F-150, I believe. My father-in-law has a 2015 extended cab that I’ve driven a fair bit, and it has a surprising amount of giddyup, while getting better mileage than I get in my Mazda6 sedan with a 3.0L NA V6.

Needs more gears.

That’s what my neighbor just got, but black with the FX4 package. I like the “cheaper” blacked out grill much better too I think.

I mean, you are a Boost, as in Ecoboost, addict.

It has twice the turbos the FieSTa has!

Bah, damn Kinja. It should say, “My father-in-law has a 2.7L in his 2015 F-150...”

As I’ve shared with oppo, I have been deeply impressed by my 2017 F-150 with the 2.7l ecoboost. I ended up buying a truck 700 miles away because I held out for the 3.73 gears. They definitely cost a few mpg at Western interstate speeds, but they’re impressive towing.

One of the things I hate about new pickups - the eyebrows by the headlight. Ford’s doing it, FCA’s been doing it for a while, now Chevy’s getting onboard.
Eeeech...

Yeah, the payload package is something I’d like, but realistically we don’t really need it for our towing requirements and the better fuel economy is nice...

With the disclaimer that fuel mileage on mine varied pretty widely during the first few thousand miles, the fuel economy is real on this engine. I’m getting around 22-23mpg on the highway at 80mph.
When towing ye olde Escalade back up to my parents, it got 14.5 mpg towing +/- 7300lbs. That is to say it got as good fuel mileage towing the escalade as the escalade gets on the highway itself not towing anything at all.

I have a 2015 XLT Supercab 2.7L, I absolutely love it. They have been tested with 0-60 times as quick as 5.8 seconds with 2WD supercrew configuration.
My truck is faster than both my BMW sedans (E46 & E90) while getting better mileage than the E46 and similar to the E90.
I’m honestly impressed with the overall package Ford came up with in regards to power and efficiency with the 2.7L Ecoboost.
